# Croatia in the off-season: a great idea! | Hotel Lemongarden - Brač Kroatien

Of course, summer in Croatia is a wonderful time of year: when the scent of blossoming lemon trees fills the air, a **salty breeze** blows in from the sea and the days are long, you can enjoy the country at its liveliest. It’s not just people from all over the world, but locals too who enjoy cooling off in the sea, socialising on the beach and **warm evenings** under the olive trees. As wonderful as summer is, Croatia in the off-season has **its own unique charms.**

3 September 2025

When is the low season on Brač?
-------------------------------

The peak season on Brač usually coincides with the period when the weather is good for swimming and the school holidays overlap. Things are therefore at their busiest **during the summer months** of July and August. However, warm temperatures are already appealing in May and June, and even between mid-September and the end of October you can still **sunbathe**, swim a few lengths in the sea and sit outside. But in the off-season, you can enjoy all of this with an extra dose of peace and quiet. Because there’s much less going on overall.

As the weather is no longer as hot as in summer, Croatia is also ideal for getting active during the off-season. The fact that Brač **is** a **mecca for outdoor enthusiasts** is now known far beyond insider circles. The [numerous hiking trails](https://www.lemongardenhotel.com/en/message-in-a-bottle/active-holidays-in-croatia/) and [varied cycling routes](https://www.lemongardenhotel.com/en/message-in-a-bottle/the-most-beautiful-cycle-routes-on-brac/) make it almost impossible not to want to head into the hinterland. The **crisp autumn air** offers wonderful views, both close up and into the distance.

Autumn in the spirit of the olive
---------------------------------

Another highlight of the off-season on Brač is just a half-hour drive from Sutivan and the Hotel Lemongarden: the annual **Olive Picking World Championship** in Postira. It has been held every October since 2017. In 2025, it will take place again from 9 to 12 October. Teams of four from across the country will once again gather to compete against each other in several categories, including hand-picking. In addition to the competitions, there is an **interesting supporting programme** for visitors, such as tastings, excursions and music.

Guests at the Hotel Lemongarden can also experience olives in a less competitive, more intimate and thoroughly atmospheric setting. Our **Olive Festival** takes place from 22 to 26 October and is a popular highlight among our guests. In the golden light of the autumn sun, we harvest olives together and then turn them into **delicious olive oil.** The supporting programme is varied; naturally, excellent food and musical entertainment are part of this special experience.

Anyone wishing to learn even more about olives can visit the [**Olive Oil Museum**](https://www.muzejuja.com/) in Škrip. In this small museum, you can admire an olive oil press, sample olive oil and, of course, take some home with you. The museum also exhibits works by local artists Hana-Marta Jurčević Bulić and Đani Martinić.

Wine and Waves: Autumn Delights on Brač
---------------------------------------

When the off-season begins for beachgoers on Brač, the peak season kicks off for wine lovers. September and October are, after all, **grape-harvesting months**. Local varieties such as Pošip and Plavac Mali take centre stage at this time. Wine lovers should head to **the Stina Winery** in Bol. There, visitors can enjoy an exciting tour with Jeri, the estate’s sommelier, who has been producing some of the island’s finest wines since 2009. These include Stina Crljenak, Stina Plavac mali Majstor, Stina Plavac mali Remeko djelo and Stina Prošek.

Moderate winds and stable weather offer enjoyment on another level: sailing! Instead of having to adapt to changeable gusts, you can focus entirely on **making steady progress**. The harbours of many coastal towns generally offer more free berths, and the bays are also less crowded. The atmosphere is relaxed, and you often have entire stretches of coastline all to yourself.
