Hiking on Brač: the right trail for every visitor
=================================================

 An autumn holiday on the island of Brač is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. That’s because you get the feeling that **you** have the **island all to yourself**. It’s easier to strike up a conversation with the locals and take part in events such as the olive harvest. Thanks to the milder temperatures, active holidaymakers can also let off steam to their heart’s content. For example, by **going hiking on Brač**.

 Ideal conditions
----------------

 When temperatures climb above 30 degrees Celsius during the summer months, very few people feel like tackling a strenuous climb to the summit. In October, with temperatures reaching up to 20 °C, conditions are ideal for **long hikes**. During the cooler months, and thanks to the Bora wind, the air is often particularly clear, which is why you **can enjoy magnificent views** , especially from the top **.** And “up there” is the perfect segue to one of the most popular hiking trails in Croatia: the highest peak on the island of Brač is **Vidova Gora**. Once you’ve climbed it, you’ll find yourself at 780 metres, enjoying views of Hvar and the Golden Horn (Zlatni Rat). There are various routes up, for example **from Bol or Dol**.

 Leisurely coastal walks
-----------------------

 If you’re in the mood for a more leisurely walk, the **“Olive Trail”** should be **on** your bucket list. To reach its starting point in the small and very pretty village of Mirca, simply set off from **the Hotel Lemongarden** heading east. The first hour takes you along the coast on the promenade and through pine groves. In fact, you’ll often find yourself walking through forests on the island of Brač. **Around a third** of the island, which covers almost 400 square kilometres, is forested.

The circular route, which is about six kilometres long, starts in Mirca. It leads to Prihod, passing **countless olive trees** along the way, and you can also catch a glimpse of the old irrigation system. The **Dolcevita walking trail** is also more of a leisurely experience than a strenuous one. It combines gastronomy, tradition and exercise, as you can **stop off** at five restaurants, a family-run winery and two **art galleries** along the way.

 Hiking tour to the monastery
----------------------------

 Here in Sutivan, you’ll find **Aldura Sport**, with whom the Lemongarden Hotel partners. This provider of a wide range of activities on and around Brač is also happy to take our guests on **guided hiking tours**. One of the most popular routes leads from Bol via **Via Brattia** through the village of Murvica to Blaca Monastery. Whilst the initial stretch is a gentle climb, from the village onwards there is a roughly 45-minute ascent that requires a bit more stamina. However, all the effort is rewarded by the view of Vela Farska Bay, Blaca Bay and, finally, **the monastery itself**.

Important to know: The trail is not technically difficult, but it definitely requires a good level of fitness and sturdy footwear. Once you arrive, it’s time to catch your breath and marvel. The **Blaca Hermitage** is, in fact, a remarkable monastery complex that has housed monks since 1551. Today it is a small museum. The island of Brač is criss-crossed by numerous hiking trails, so there is a suitable route for every preference and ability level.
