Hiking on Brač: The right trail for every visitor
An autumn holiday on the island of Brač is an extremely enjoyable experience. That's because you feel like you have the island all to yourself. It's easier to strike up conversations with locals and take part in events such as the olive harvest. Active holidaymakers can also enjoy themselves to their heart's content thanks to the milder temperatures. For example, by hiking on Brač.

Ideal conditions
When temperatures climb above 30 degrees Celsius during the summer months, very few people feel like climbing a sweaty mountain peak. In October, temperatures of up to 20 °C provide ideal conditions for long hiking tours. During the cooler months, and thanks to the bora wind, the air is often particularly clear, which is why you can enjoy magnificent views from above. And ‘above’ is also the perfect transition to one of the most popular hiking trails in Croatia: the highest peak on the island of Brač is Vidova Gora. Once you have climbed it, you are at an altitude of 780 metres and can enjoy views of Hvar and the Golden Horn (Zlatni Rat). There are various routes to the top, for example from Bol or Dol.
Relaxed coastal paths
If you're in the mood for a more leisurely tour, the ‘Olive Trail’ should be on your bucket list. To reach its starting point in the small and very pretty village of Mirca, simply walk east from the Hotel Lemongarden. The first hour takes you along the coast on the promenade and through pine groves. In general, you will often find yourself walking through forests on the island of Brač. Around a third of the island, which covers almost 400 square kilometres, is forested.
The circular trail, which is around six kilometres long, starts in Mirca. It leads to Prihod, passing countless olive trees along the way, and you can also catch a glimpse of the old irrigation system. The Dolcevita hiking trail is also more of a leisurely than a strenuous affair. It combines gastronomy, tradition and exercise, as you can stop at five restaurants, a family-run winery and two art galleries along the way.
Hiking tour to the monastery
Here in Sutivan, you will find Aldura Sport, which cooperates with the Hotel Lemongarden. This provider of various activities on and around Brač is also happy to take our guests on a guided hiking tour. One of the most popular routes leads from Bol via Via Brattia through the village of Murvica to the Blaca monastery. While the initial climb is gentle, the route from the village involves a 45-minute ascent that requires a little more stamina. However, all your efforts will be rewarded by the view of Vela Farska Bay, Blaca Bay and finally the monastery itself.
Important to know: The trail is not technically difficult, but it does require a good level of fitness and sturdy footwear. Once you arrive, take a deep breath and marvel at the view. Blaca Hermitage is a remarkable monastery complex that housed monks from 1551 onwards. Today it is a small museum. The island of Brač is criss-crossed by numerous hiking trails, so there is a suitable route for every requirement and every level of fitness.
