Brač Travel Guide

If you ask a travel guide to describe Brač in just a few words, they will most likely find it difficult. The island is so diverse, idyllic, enchanting and fascinating. It is no coincidence that Croatia’s third-largest island is regarded as the pearl of the Adriatic.

Where is Brač?

To get a sense of the island, it’s worth starting with its geographical location. Brač is 12 kilometres wide and 40 kilometres long. It lies in the Dalmatia region, within sight of Split. The island’s landscape alone is enough to captivate visitors. Pine forests, olive groves and macchia dominate the landscape. The latter refers to the vegetation we instinctively associate with the Mediterranean: low, evergreen shrubs interspersed with wildflowers. The island’s interior offers particularly unspoilt natural beauty.

The numerous hiking trails on Brač make it easy to explore the island on foot. The Vidova Gora route, for example, climbs to an altitude of 778 metres. Here, at the summit of the mountain of the same name, you can enjoy superb panoramic views whilst savouring the feeling of standing at the highest point of all the Croatian islands. A more leisurely walk starts in the village of Mirca: the Olive Trail. This takes you through olive groves to Prihod and back, covering a distance of around 6 kilometres.

Cycling on Brač

Would you like to explore Brač at your own pace without a guide? Then grab one of our hire bikes and set off! A beautiful cycle route on Brač runs from Sutivan to Milna. Along the way, you’ll be treated to views of Ložišća, stone houses and picturesque bays. Fitter cyclists can also embark on a mountain bike tour around Stara cesta or cycle from Milna via Veli kuk and Blacina glava back to Milna. Trails, views and 941 metres of elevation gain await. In total, there are 25 different, signposted cycle routes. The longest runs from Supetar, the island’s capital, all the way round the island and is called St. Jurja. It is 180 kilometres long.

What could be better than cooling off in the sea after a long bike ride? There are plenty of unspoilt bays just waiting to be discovered! One of the most picturesque spots for a dip in the ocean is Martinica pebble beach, for example. A small headland topped by a monastery, plus 100 metres of beach and a pine grove: simply idyllic! Very close to the Hotel Lemongarden, Sutivan Beach and Plaža Grgina await sun-seekers. The sandy beach at Lovrecina and the large pebble beaches of Osibova, Maslinova and Pasikova are also tempting.

World-famous: Zlatni rat, Croatia’s most famous beach

Tips for Brač without mentioning the "Golden Horn" near Bol? Impossible! After all, this long pebble beach, which stretches some 500 metres into the sea, is the island’s most famous postcard view. It is worth noting that the tip of the island changes direction depending on which way the wind is blowing and the direction of the sea currents. Wind is a good keyword, because for surfers, Zlatni Rat is arguably the best of all the Brač tips. The maestral wind blows here constantly. So they can indulge their passion to their heart’s content.

Although the beach gets quite busy during the summer months, it’s definitely worth a visit. As well as beach bars , there are water sports facilities, equipment hire, showers and lifeguards. And it’s only about a 15-minute walk to the village of Bol with its cafés and restaurants. Guests at the Hotel Lemongarden can reach the beach by car in about 45 minutes. How about hiring one of our two white Mini Coopers for the journey? You could hardly arrive in a more stylish way.
