Breakfast at the Lemongarden Hotel
Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day, as our parents always told us? Why is it supposed to be so healthy? And why is breakfast at the Lemongarden Hotel more than just a way to start the day?

How important is breakfast?
To give a proper answer to this, we first need to define what we mean by ‘important’. Do you personally think it’s important to take time in the morning to start the day on a positive note and not go to work on an empty stomach? Do you consider spending time with your family or your partner in the morning to be important? If so, there’s no doubt about it: breakfast is important. But is breakfast also healthy? There are many different studies on this topic, and it is not at all easy to give a clear-cut answer. After all, health can also be defined using various parameters. The Health Knowledge Foundation, for example, has examined three studies that looked at breakfast in relation to body weight, illness and mental performance.
The authors of the review concluded that whilst eating or skipping breakfast has no measurable effect on memory performance, those who eat breakfast have lower levels of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. Blood sugar levels, blood pressure and blood lipid levels appear to be unaffected by whether or not someone eats something in the morning.
Research on the topic of breakfast
Overall, the research on the topic of ‘Breakfast: yes or no?’ is rather contradictory. On the one hand, there is evidence to suggest that people who skip breakfast are more likely to be overweight or have type 2 diabetes; on the other hand, there are also plenty of studies that reach the opposite conclusion. How we feel, with or without breakfast, does not depend solely on when we eat. Of course, it also depends on what’s on our plates. However, it does seem to be true that the body burns twice as many calories after breakfast as it does after dinner.
Breakfast is a treat
Breakfast lovers all agree: when done properly, there’s hardly a more enjoyable way to start the day. In this respect, breakfast at the Hotel Lemongarden is hard to beat. Here, guests sit right by the water, in the little harbour of Sutivan. As the fishing village slowly comes to life and the hustle and bustle begins along the promenade, the attentive team serves up delicious dishes from the kitchen.
For example, the crisp vegetables come straight from the hotel’s own vegetable garden, where they have been left to ripen in the sun until their full flavour has developed. The olive oil in which you dip our crispy, homemade bread comes from our own olive grove. The fluffy croissants, which are every bit as good as those in Paris, delight the hearts of food lovers just as much as the delicious egg dishes, from Eggs Benedict to omelettes. For the latter, happy island chickens provide the ingredients.
Because food is always a way to connect with a region and its culinary heritage, breakfast at the Hotel Lemongarden features a selection of typical Mediterranean salamis and hams, fish specialities, regional cow’s, sheep’s and goat’s cheeses, and Croatian sea salt. Freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade jams from the region, granola, Brač honey and delicious breakfast coffees are just some of the other delicacies with which we delight our guests first thing in the morning. What better way to toast the day ahead, full of all manner of holiday delights, than with a glass of sparkling champagne!
