Why is the Lemongarden Hotel closing for the winter?
Even a small, exclusive boutique hotel welcomes several hundred guests over the course of a season. Added to this are suppliers delivering fresh ingredients for the kitchen and the staff. They walk across the floors, drag their suitcases, move armchairs and sleep in the beds. And although we are fortunate enough to welcome a group of guests who are extremely considerate, signs of wear and tear are nevertheless inevitable.
Furthermore, the location right by the sea brings its own challenges. For instance, the salty air takes a greater toll on the wooden elements of the façade here than would be the case further inland or on the mainland. However, we always want to present our best side to our guests. That is why maintenance work is constantly necessary. But as we do not wish to disturb our visitors’ well-deserved peace and quiet during their most precious time of the year, this work is concentrated over the winter.
Dreams of summer, sunshine and lemons
This makes sense because winter isn’t traditionally one of the seasons when people go on holiday to a Croatian island. Whilst spring, summer and autumn are simply wonderful, winter often has a rather wet side to it. This gives our team all the more time to take care of the necessary maintenance and repair work. Once the last ice cream of the season has been served and our final guests have checked out on 26 October 2025, our team springs into action.
Our fleet of vehicles, consisting of bicycles, Mini Cooper convertibles and our three boats, is cleaned and stowed away for the winter. In the garden, too, the team prepares everything for the winter months. They sweep, prune, wrap up, tidy away and stow everything.
We’re already looking forward to kicking off the next season on 25 April 2026. Until then, we’ll be dreaming of a hearty breakfast right by the sea, drinks at sunset in the harbour, blossoming lemon trees and relaxing by the pool. One thing is certain: next year, too, our team will be dedicated to ensuring our guests’ well-being.
