Freshly caught
The fishermen on Brač have been fishing in the surrounding sea for thousands of years: prawns, mussels, often small, flavourful fish such as mackerel or red mullet, and occasionally large, now rare species such as tuna and swordfish.
Fish from the surrounding sea.
As sustainable as
a thousand years ago
They do this using simple, ancient methods and in quantities that have always ensured that stocks do not suffer. Unfortunately, they are increasingly paying the price for a problem for which they are not responsible: the overfishing of the seas by large fishing fleets in international waters. This means that even the small fishermen of Brač are allowed and able to catch much, much less. We are therefore very pleased that we can buy almost their entire catch from some of these fishermen at a fair price.

This means our guests get fish of a quality that is not available outside a small fishing village.
And we can do our bit to ensure that sustainable coastal fishing remains viable in the future.
