Autumn by the Sea: An Investment in Your Health
During the peak summer months, both Croatia as a whole and the island of Brač are bustling with activity. Data from the previous year paints a clear picture: 54.5 percent of all overnight stays were recorded in July and August. Those who choose to travel in the shoulder season can enjoy a quieter, almost magical break on Brač. Spending a short autumn getaway by the sea in Croatia can be just as relaxing as a longer trip to a faraway destination.

Why an Autumn Holiday by the Sea Is Good for Your Health
A break by the sea is relaxing at any time of year. But in autumn in particular, we can benefit enormously from it both physically and mentally. Spending an autumn holiday by the sea can be an investment in your health. Before the weather back home turns cold and damp again and puts our immune system to the test, a seaside break offers a chance to strengthen it. The effect of the sea on the immune system has even been scientifically confirmed.
When autumn arrives, the typical winds on Brač, such as the Jugo or Bora, become noticeably stronger. This creates more intense wave action, which in turn causes microscopic droplets of seawater, known as aerosols, to disperse through the air. They help keep the mucous membranes moist, making it harder for pathogens to enter the body. According to studies, this natural form of inhalation can help reduce inflammatory reactions in the lungs and support the immune system. Ideal preparation for the season of dry, warm indoor heating air!
Active Stress Relief by the Sea
The stronger wave action means that extremely high concentrations of negatively charged oxygen ions are present in the air close to the surf. Studies suggest that they can accelerate the absorption of oxygen from the alveoli into the bloodstream, helping to supply muscles, organs and tissues with oxygen more efficiently. Negative ions help break down the stress hormone serotonin. So once peace and quiet return to Brač, the relaxing effect of a holiday can become even more pronounced.
Vitamin D is particularly important. The body needs it for healthy bones and teeth, muscle strength, a strong immune system and, not least, a good mood. To produce it, the skin needs to be exposed to UV-B radiation with a UV index of at least 3. During the Central European winter, the sun is too low in the sky for enough UV-B rays to pass through the ozone layer. Spending autumn by the sea can therefore help replenish the body’s vitamin D stores. This reserve can last for around two to six weeks.
What Can You Do on Brač in Autumn?
While replenishing vitamin D stores, lowering stress levels and breathing in healthy sea air happen almost naturally, there is still plenty of time to discover the island at its best. Brač in autumn really is something special! Guests of Hotel Lemongarden can borrow a Mini Cooper from our fleet or charter a boat to explore secluded bays, the natural surroundings of the adults-only hotel by the sea and many of the island’s sights.
At the hotel itself, autumn is all about enjoyment. In the morning, you can take your time and enjoy breakfast in peace right on the harbour promenade. The island’s slower pace soon has a positive effect on your own mood as well. You can swim length after length in Croatia’s most beautiful pool, while the sea is still inviting for a swim too. Active guests can look forward to ideal autumn weather for hiking, cycling and sailing trips.
In October, guests of the adults-only hotel can also look forward to two special highlights: the Olive Festival (8 to 10 October 2026), where guests harvest olives together, produce olive oil and enjoy a programme of music and culinary delights, as well as “The Final Taste of Summer” (22 to 24 October 2026). Look forward to three special days filled with Dalmatian cuisine, nature experiences, music and authentic island moments – from regional tastings and olive harvesting to hikes and atmospheric evenings.
